About Campbell
Weldon Campbell is a self-made man - albeit that he has made himself at the cost of others - and all too often through blunt force and brutal tactics - whether as a prize boxer, a criminal henchman, crime boss, land speculator or cattle baron. Campbell has hidden criminal activities - if you’re on the shady side of things you might come to learn this about him but if you’re a law abiding citizen you’ll be oblivious. His serious, gruff exterior won’t be missed by anyone but to all intents and purposes he’ll appear to be a respectable hardworking cattle ranch owner. Weldon has created a large ranch outside Del Fuego by purchasing smaller farms that have found themselves under financial strain, squeezed or victims of violence.
To society, Campbell appears to be a shrewd businessman who capitalised on the hard luck of others to make his good fortune. To those few in the know, they’ll know that it has been Campbell’s own hand that has orchestrated the underselling, profiteering, financial squeeze and intimidation that some have suffered.
Friends and associations
Campbell is not big on social occasions or making friends. He’s not entirely worried about courting popular opinion of himself other than to ensure he projects an image of authority and legitimacy to ensure he can conduct his other business. He may have professional dealings with you in town but his friends will be few and far between and less so anyone that he will trust.
Weldon has few persons that he will trust. His right hand man, Hollander Burgess is perhaps the only person he trusts implicitly. Others may be of use to Weldon for business - legitimate or otherwise. Perhaps Weldon has cause to employ you for services otherwise that suit his criminal dealings and avoid him getting his hands dirty. Perhaps you’re a fine and upstanding member of the community and Weldon has to suffer your company for appearances sake.
As the owner of a large cattle ranch, Weldon Campbell may have positions that require filling. Of course, working for Weldon Campbell might mean learning in time that there is more to his business dealings than first appears. Are you sure you want to be led into a life of crime? Dare you cross him?
Enemies
Despite his criminal activities, his enemies will be few because he will not tolerate enemies. We soon learn that he is willing to kill in order to exact revenge against anyone who crosses him. So his outright enemies will be few but he is sure to earn the enmity of others by his brusque demeanour and brutal tactics. He will go through you for a short cut to gain his own advantage and so it may be that you can become an obstacle to his ambitions or plans.
A new arrival to town will be become an outspoken enemy to Weldon. Jonah Arkken is an old timer rancher whose family homestead became the hub of Weldon’s ranch after Weldon tricked the farm from under him. Arkken’s return will publicly call out Weldon and few will believe the accusations - initially - after all, mud sticks and suspicions may soon be cast. Others too will learn that Weldon Campbell has played a sinister role in their lives. Time will tell how things then might turn out. One thing is for sure, most will know to be wary of Weldon Campbell in their dealings as he is intimidating by nature.
